Community Housing Initiatives (IA)Community Housing Initiatives (CHI) was formed to address the lack of new and affordable housing options for families seeking to transition from dependency on public assistance programs. Until its formation, no single non-profit organization had been designed to focus specifically on increasing housing throughout Iowa. Because of its early success and on-going commitment to re-investment into housing, CHI has become a major player in the expansion of affordable housing in Iowa. CHI has been designated as a Community Housing Development Organization for the entire state of Iowa.
Federal Home Loan BanksThe mission of the Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB) is to provide cost-effective funding to members for use in housing, community and economic development; to provide regional affordable housing programs, which create housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income families; to support housing finance through advances and mortgage programs; and to serve as a reliable source of liquidity for its membership. There are 12 FHLB located in different regions of the country serving approximately 8,100 local financial institutions (member lenders). Through FHLB's Affordable Housing Program and Community Investment Program, FHLB provides grants and low-interest loans to member financial institutions to use to provide financing for economic development and housing activities.
Iowa Finance Authority (IA)The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) offers a variety of programs that address a continuum of housing needs, from homeless assistance to multifamily rental to single-family homeownership. IFA also issues tax-exempt bonds for a wide range of projects. IFA provides the lowest cost funds for drinking water and waste water facilities in Iowa. This program, called the State Revolving Fund, receives federal grants that allow for low-interest loans to help communities affordably build or update clean water facilities.
Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MN)The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) provides affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate income Minnesotans through a number of resources. MHFA programs help people buy first homes or fix up existing homes as well as help build and fix up affordable apartments, single family homes, shelters and transitional and supportive housing. MHFA also works with other organizations to revitalize older neighborhoods and communities, build new housing around the state for a growing work force and preserve the stock of federally-assisted rental housing.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban DevelopmentThe mission of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is to increase homeownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination.
Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WI)The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) offers products and services in partnership with others to link Wisconsin residents and communities with affordable housing and economic development opportunities. WHEDA is an independent state authority that works with lenders to provide low-cost financing for housing and small business development in Wisconsin. |
